Are you a courteous guest when you travel? . . . More often than not when I travel I'm disappointed by the conversations I overhear. Things like "Why don't they speak English" or "The WiFi is terrible" or "This would never happen in *my* country" . . I want to remind you that when you go to a new place you are a guest in their country. You have to be willing to throw your comfort out the window and embrace the culture that surrounds you. If you're going to other countries and complaining about luxuries that realistically don't matter than you need to go ahead and check your privilege at the door. . . . My momma always taught me that when you go to someone's home you're thankful for their generosity and the experience they're sharing with you and I think that life lesson should apply to traveling too. 🏠 . . . 8 years of being wrapped up in you seems like a good way to live. 💓 . . . With August in full swing this month we celebrate our anniversary, Steph's birthday and mine right after. . . . We used to go all out with more gifts than we could count but with all of our bopping around we've opted to spend our money on experiences we can share together rather than material goods that weigh us down. . . . Spending some time in the middle of the woods with each other, cooking meals over the fire, wasting our time with puzzles, poems and Toy Story mad libs is an experience I wish I could live over and over again. I'll be forever thankful to @getawayhouse for their cabins and the opportunity to let us disconnect and fall deeper in love than I thought imaginable. . . . I'm also going to go ahead and give myself a pat on the back for keeping my secret getaway secret. If you know me you know that my excitement leads me to ruin surprises often but seeing Steph's face when we pulled up to our temporary home made all of my internal suffering worth it. . . . When Poopz moved away I was pissed. . . . Her being my best friend I wasn't ready to not have her by my side all the time. I felt abandoned and at the time I didn't understand her reasoning to just up and leave. . . . 7 years later I know she taught me my first lesson in adulting. She taught me that despite all of the emotional dependence I put on a person it wasn't fair of me to hold her back. I had to let her live her life and spread her wings so she could grow too. Which in turn, taught me how to be stronger. . . . I'm really glad I learned that sooner rather than later and didn't stay mad forever because I'm so unbelievably proud of the life and family she's created since moving. I admire the adventures she finds herself on and how much she's grown. . . . Life is full of transitions and your strength comes from how you adapt to them. While Poopzie wasn't in my life everyday we could video chat all the time and she's made it clear that I have a resident spot on her couch whenever I can squeeze a Florida visit into my schedule. She's still my best friend and we've learned that something as trivial as miles apart can't take away the bond we share. . . . . Sometimes you just have to cheer on your friends when they take a leap of faith despite how it makes you feel. . . . I need you guys to do me a favor today. . . . . I was watching Last Chance U on @netflix the other day even though I do not know one thing about football.....🤨 . . . ....I digress, BUT during the show one of the teachers asked her student to think of three positive words that described themselves. . . . I loved that she did that. Steph and I instantly tried this little exercise. We could name countless adjectives to describe each other but the minute we shifted to ourselves we both tripped up. Often times we forget to remind ourselves about all of our good qualities.
